Overview: The AOC Weapon System (WS) is the senior Command and Control (C2) element of the Theater Air Control System (TACS) and operational level focal point for C2 of air and space forces during Air Force (AF) and combined (coalition)/joint operations. Headquarters (HQ) Air Combat Command (ACC) is the Lead Command, Combat Air Force (CAF) lead, and force provider of AOC equipment and personnel as an Air Force component of United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) - [AFGSC], United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) [AFCENT], and United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) [AFSOUTH]. There are numerous AOC entities at separate locations world-wide, providing fixed and deployable, training and innovation, functional, and manpower augmentation capabilities

 

The 608 AOC requires Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) as AOC functional operators, technicians and subject matter experts (SME) to augment and enhance forces and operations as follows:

  • Integrating 608 AOC operations, global strike, and global Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I);
  • Planning, defining, implementation, and operational management of global communications systems, Common Operational Picture (COP) and the AOC WS;
  • Employing an integrated systems approach to assist with properly developing, implementing, testing, planning, and managing the AOC WS;
  • Building and maintaining Crew Mission Readiness program for the AOC WS Training and STAN/EVAL support functions;
  • Developing and promoting best Knowledge Management practices using cyber operational data for Senior AOC Leadership.

 

Specific Duties:  Global Command & Control C4I Systems (GCCS) Technical Support Specialist will:

  • Provide on-site GCCS system engineering support as required to maintain the system in an operational state at all times.
  • Provide technical support for GCCS resources during the product life cycle and technical support for each use/mission application.
  • Provide support with daily operations and maintenance of GCCS C4I Systems, to include end- user application support for the system.
  • Provide technical refreshes and upgrades/patches to the systems, perform backups, monitor the system performance, troubleshoot problems, and provide technical direction for the future
  • Design and validate installation of supporting network infrastructures to include developing system and application software baselines for servers and end-user workstations, provide technical recommendations, optimize system performance and resources, lead, teach, and perform systems analysis, system, and database administration, and solve complex customer problems concerning C2 system inter-relationships and integration
  • Perform systems analysis and design, software/hardware conversion and implementation support, network services, project management, and database planning and design to ensure the integration of all systems components (i.e. procedures, databases, policies, software, and hardware).
  • Provide System Engineering and training and assistance. These activities include system and network engineering, network security, monitoring of system performance, system/application/patch installation and configuration, system services and maintenance
  • Identify equipment and software deficiencies and provide their impact on operability and security
  • Identify and recommend to the government representatives changes to maximize network efficiency and terminal response times and script changes that will improve user interfaces and the daily operations of the LAN.
  • Identify single point of failure or other concerns to prevent host or terminal isolations.
  • Implement Government approved configuration changes to the network/LAN, perform site surveys required for changes to existing command LAN, and assist in establishing quality standards and in the evaluation of C2 systems' proposals and in the technical direction.
  • Provide the necessary training to ensure government personnel tasked with maintaining the system in deployed environments are knowledgeable and qualified, provide continuity, ensure proper documentation of system configuration, attend conferences and top level meetings requiring higher technical knowledge, and prepare briefings and reports to ensure technical recommendations, skills and direction meet projected changes/new equipment/system requirements.
  • Provide technical and administrative support to UNIX and MS Windows systems, including on-site systems administration, systems engineering, operational testing and evaluation, database administration, configuration management, interoperability and integration with current/future systems.
  • Provide operational experience transitioning and migration to new system releases (Major and Minor version upgrades, Patches and Service Packs). Previous experience with GCCS-J migrations desired.
  • Provide system administration related knowledge for other databases and management structures and security functional areas, as well as knowledge of how the WAM software application works with GCCS 4.x is highly desirable
  • Provide management, and technical support of C4I. Previous experience supporting military deployment operations is desired. Travel to support other Air Force sites as required. Travel outside the U.S. will require passport and may require country specific VISA.

Qualifications:

  • An active current TS+ clearance
  • Willing and able to travel as required
  • Possess at least three (3) years of demonstrated relevant experience working with AOC Weapon Systems and familiarity with Air Force Instruction (AFI) 13-1 AOC Volume 3 Operational Procedures Air and Space Operations Center, secure facility access processes
  • Possess one or more of the related communications systems or certifications specified below:
    • NIPRNet and SIPRNet network enterprise environments;
    • Microsoft Windows operating system software for servers and workstations;
    • Solaris operating systems;
    • VMWare;
    • Oracle software for servers and workstations;
    • Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) certification;
    • IAT level II certification(s);
    • Completion of a formal C2 FTU AOCIQTSYS and/or AOCIQTNET course or equivalent
  • Possess a minimum of four years of experience (or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field applicable to this position [e.g. information systems, computer science, math, or engineering] and one year of experience) providing technical expertise and support (maintenance, logistics, and life cycle support) for the government
  • Must possess 2+ years' experience with Linux/Unix servers, Solaris 8 and 10 operating systems
  • Military or civilian experience with GCCS, especially GCCS-J
  • Possess a CompTIA Security+ CE certification
  • Possess demonstrated relative knowledge of intelligence capabilities, processes, and tasking mechanisms necessary to support Government efforts for performance of AOC Weapon Systems (WS) (highly desired).
