LCAT: Systems Administrator (Journeyman)


Job description: The Windows System Administrator facilitates timely and efficient service for nearly 10,000 combined PC, laptop and virtual sessions spanning across three networks, stand alone, and other use PCs (i.e. CIS) in multiple locations to include outside of USSTRATCOM. This team is responsible for providing resolution for all services and software components on the LAN with the exception of Break/Fix hardware actions.

Windows administrators should exhibit excellent follow-through, customer service skills, task management, work ethic, and be able to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Administrators must also demonstrate time management skills to facilitate timely resolution of requests.


  • Create and maintain procedural documentation and train junior staff as necessary
  • Create, change, delete command user accounts as requested by ISAMs.
  • Support high-level, (NAOC/ABNCP/Exec Comms) computing requirements.
  • Policy Group Management (KIOSK, SDG), Global Security Group and AppStack Group management.
  • CDI account and Teridici Administration support.
  • Maintain system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting system hardware, software, virtual system sessions, security tools, and operating system issues
  • Provide 24X7, and remote location support as needed
  • Build, update, maintain Blade PC platform
  • Adhere to enterprise architecture by following best practices
  • Utilize both Active Directory and Active Roles Services to monitor and control, users, devices, permissions.
  • Perform Enterprise VDI management, VMWare Horizon View, VMWare vSphere Web Client.
  • Distribute software to PCs utilizing SCCM, virtual sessions connection, or by desktop visit to hand load.
  • Analyze alerts from various monitoring tools and take appropriate actions during troubleshooting.

Experience/Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Four or more years of experience in a client-server environment
  • Experience working with software installation/upgrading procedures
  • Experience with building Images, utilizing Sysprep
  • CompTIA Security+ required within 6 months of hire.
  • ITIL® v3 Foundations Certification within 6 months of hire
  • Required to respond to after-hour emergencies
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and delegate work
  • Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment with attention to detail either individually and/or as part of a team
  • Good business and analytical problem solving skills
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
  • This is a 24x7x365 Operations role and requires flexibility to support issues or planned activities after hours and weekends as needed. Self-starter; able to manage multiple tasks efficiently for on-time delivery
  • Strong understanding of file/folder permissions
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills and experience communicating with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Understanding of Microsoft Exchange Server
  • Demonstrated ability to work with application owners to formulate, troubleshoot and document application installations
  • Understanding of Server 2012
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows Active Directory and Active Roles Server.
  • Understanding of application & OS security, including virus scan management and patching
  • Working knowledge in VMWare is required
